A heel spur is a bony growth that usually begins on the front of your heel bone and points towards the arch of your foot. They don't always cause pain. They often show up unexpectedly on x-rays taken for some other problem.
The heel bone is called the calcaneus.plantar faciitis is the common cause of calcaneal spurs. When stress is put on the plantar fascia ligament, it does not cause only plantar faciitis, but causes a heel spur where the plantar fascia attaches to the heel bone.
